A ball on a bare patch on the closely mown fairway being played or in a stony area receives free relief at the nearest reference point.
Putting-green damage relief
When a ball or line of play on a putting green is affected by a bare or damaged patch, the ball may be placed for relief no nearer the hole.
Tree-root swing relief
When a tree root interferes with the club's swing path, free relief is available within one card length of the agreed reference point.
