Local Rules

Red-and-blue penalty-area drop zones

For specified red penalty areas marked with blue-topped stakes, the nearest blue-stake dropping zone is an additional one-stroke relief option.

Abnormal bunker conditions

A bunker marked by a stake is GUR. Exposed bunker matting is an abnormal course condition, with free relief taken inside the bunker.

Out of bounds

Out of bounds is defined by the course-side ground-level line between white stakes and fence posts, or by the course-side edge of a boundary wall. A ball beyond the fence behind the fifth is out even if it lies on another part of the course.

No-play zones and GUR

White stakes with green tops mark mandatory-relief no-play zones. White-lined areas and clearly defined maintenance wheel ruts are GUR with optional Rule 16.1b relief.

Garden beds and young trees

Edged garden beds are GUR; those with a white-and-green stake are no-play zones. Staked trees and shrubs and their guards are also no-play zones requiring free relief.

Immovable obstructions and paths

Listed artificial-course objects are immovable obstructions. All roads and paths, including unsurfaced ones, are also treated as immovable obstructions with free relief.

Power-line replay

A stroke known or virtually certain to have hit a power line or its supporting structure does not count and must be replayed without penalty.
