Out of bounds
Out of bounds is on or beyond any bitumen road, or beyond the inner course edge of white posts or stakes with black tops and their direct extension to white dots on road kerbs.
Ground under repair and yellow sand
White-marked areas and yellow-sanded areas in the general area and on putting greens are ground under repair, with the stated sand-filled-divot exception for general-area yellow sand.
Protected trees and shrubs
Staked or tree-guarded trees and shrubs are no-play zones; when they interfere with stance or intended swing, the ball must be lifted and dropped without penalty under Rule 16.1b.
Cut-turf and sprinkler relief
Free relief is available for cut-turf seams affecting the ball or intended swing, but not stance alone, and for fixed sprinkler heads and tap covers, including the specified close-to-green line-of-play case.
